Description: Ceramic
Artist: Clare Wakefield
Profile:

Working with porcelain, as she has for the last ten years, complements the distinctive and unique style of Clare Wakefield’s work. She is inspired by the strength and motion of the sea and how it affects all that it touches. The white of the porcelain body allows her glazes a fresh vibrancy, left unglazed it can echo the sea sculpted forms of chalk rock pools.

Clare’s pieces are thrown first on the potters wheel, then pierced and sculpted. With a design idea at the outset, she feels it important to be open minded throughout the making process since this can change as each piece develops and possibly suggest another path to follow.

Clare Wakefield works in her studio in Kent, close to the sea. She studied at Cardiff University in 1989 gaining a First Class Honours Degree. She has taught many classes and given talks and demonstrations at ceramic exhibitions. Her most exciting invitation was to Delhi. Here Clare held a workshop and guided students through the designing making, glazing and firing of their wave inspired works of art.
