Description: ceramic
Artist: Linda Styles
Profile:

Linda Styles

Linda is a London born, Cornwall based potter and this granite outcrop has been her home for 39 years, down by the sea.

Her practice relates to the exploration of the emotive and instinctual, superficially na´ve perhaps and sometimes dysfunctional in the traditional sense, the viewer/handler is invited to respond on an emotional as opposed to intellectual level.

She mainly works from memory and reflection, the majority of her time being spent in the studio environment, surrounded by chemicals, clay and kilns.
She is known to use a range of colours that are discordant and yet harmonic, gouged out infills purposefully underlaid with dense earth pigments and oxides, swathes of matt opaque interspersed with glassy pools of intense saturation.
Colour, line and space merging background into object, object into background, suggestive, evocative and always open to interpretation.

She continues to freehand etch her 'Styles' signature into the clay body as seen in: ‘British Studio Potters' Marks’, Eric Yates-Owen and Robert Fournier Published by A&C Black Limited. 1996 – Ongoing

She has  have exhibited at The V & A Museum, Tate St Ives and designed for Terence Conran, worked on numerous Heritage lottery and Arts Council funded public space projects. Her work is held in the V & A Ceramics archive, the Gregg Museum of Folk Art, North Carolina, USA and private collections Worldwide.
