As a lifelong collector, admirer and dedicated revivalist of the arts and crafts ethos, my work has evolved comfortably in both Nouveau and Deco mode. Having a foot in both camps stimulates a constant flow of ideas and techniques which enables my work to maintain a fresh and enthusiastic approach to the iconic design styles of the early twentieth Century.
In contrast to the naturalistic symmetry of my flora and fauna collections, my Optical Geometry works pay homage to the deco period of the arts and crafts movement. Based on Picasso’s iconic painting, ‘Ma Jolie’, my ‘Picasso’ collection of bowls and salvers, combine complementary colour palettes overlaid in precise hand-cut geometric design to cast a refracted image. Every piece I make is unique, with the more complex designs incorporating three offset layers of up to 120 individual pieces.
