Banu is a ceramics artist whose work is intended to reintroduce and reengage her audience in the medium of the newsprint.
She has observed how often people attribute little value to newspapers and are quick to dismiss the daily news.
She uses a combination of slip-casting and various techniques using her hands, with silkscreen and transfer printing adding images on the surface for vivid detail.
By means of combining contemporary ceramics with newsprint on paper- clay porcelain; Banu aims to capture pieces of history within her creations in a way that will engage her audience in a different approach to how one would generally consume news. Her intent is not to document history in detail, but to preserve small narratives for people to enjoy ponder and appreciate.
